Hi everyone,

Please could you help me identify the following medals/badges.

They were in amongst other medals and badges belonging to a relative of mine who fought and died in WW1 (Gallipoli campaign).

Although I have managed to identify the other bits and pieces these two are puzzling me! Any help would be gratefully received.

MEDAL/BADGE 1

MEDAL/BADGE 2

NB. The name of my relative is imprinted on the back of Medal/Badge 2.

Thanks in anticipation!

Can you provide a little more detail please? Was your relative Australian or Kiwi? What branch of the armed forces did they serve in? Other than what is shown in the pictures are there any other markings or imprints?

Hi Michelin,

Welcome to the Forum.

These are most probably not connected to his military service and may be some sort of civilian prizes awarded pre WW1. It is difficult to see any detail on the pictures which you have posted, so a couple of close ups may help identify them. Are there any hallmarks on them? as this will give a clue as to when they were awarded.

Thanks for your replies.

nick8t4 - my relative was English and served in the 8th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers.

There are hallmarks on both medals...

Medal 1 - B/&/S Anchor/Lion/C

Medal 2 - F/&/S Anchor/Lion/G

old owl - You're right in suggesting that they're pre WW1. Having done a quick internet search of the hallmarks the first seems to be from 1902 and the second from 1906.

As my relative was born in 1895 they might be awards he won at school?

Thanks for your help!

Are the arms of the Cross engraved with letters or just Floreate?

I would suspect as suggested they are "Fob" medals for Sports or Social events, possibly if the property of a WW1 serviceman, from School if dated 1902.
