The events in this area at the end of and after the war were very complicated and defy a lot of assumptions and stereotypes. A lot of people far from home suffered obscure or unknown deaths. An inportant background theme was the ongoing efforts of a lot of people and countries to complete taking apart not only the Turkish Empire but also Turkey itself.
