Could any member help me with the following question?

I have a BWM with the inscription: J.W.Russell STD. M.F.A. what does STD. M.F.A. mean?

Std = Steward

MFA = Marine Fleet Auxiliary (forerunner of modern RFA, i.e. civilian-manned supply ships and tankers operating under RN command, rather than Mercantile Marine).

It's actually Mercantile Fleet Auxiliary,or so I was told!

But I have heard it called Merchant Fleet Auxiliary too.

So...which is correct?

Kind regards,

Andy

Off the top of my head either, but Mercantile Marine was the then name for the MN, so probably Mercantile... not Marine, don't know why I put that, must have had something on my mind ... oops.
