stephen binks Posted 14 July , 2004 Share Posted 14 July , 2004 Many CWGC registers make reference to cemeteries that were closed once reburials had taken place. Can any body help with suggestions on where to find this information. I have tried the CWGC. They say they dont hold such records?
Terry Denham Posted 14 July , 2004 Share Posted 14 July , 2004 The info does not exist in one place any more (or even at all for some places!). I have spent some time compiling records of these locations with great help from Jacky Platteeuw who has done a lot of work on Belgian sites. If you can get hold of a copy of "The White Cross Touring Atlas of the Western Battlefields" by Alexander Gross, this has maps which show many (not all) of the closed sites which still existed immediately post-war. Of course, many were cleared by the army before IWGC got involved. Contact me off-Forum and I will see if I can help.
stephen binks Posted 14 July , 2004 Author Share Posted 14 July , 2004 Thank you Terry. I dont suppose you have an ISBN for this book title?
Terry Denham Posted 14 July , 2004 Share Posted 14 July , 2004 Sorry. It was published in the very early 1920s - long before the invention of such things as ISBNs! I bought my copy only a few months ago on Abebooks and I think Amazon had some as well. Try a search on one of those as a starter.
