I would like to obtain a copy of this book.. unsure of the author.

Altho I have never seen it, I understand it is quite worthwhile & well done.

Might anyone have a copy for sale, or know if one might be available in CANADA or U.S.A. ??

Thanks in advance,

Bryan (Canada)

Hi Bryan

I have a copy of this book which I ordered through my local bookshop (U.K.), when I was trying to trace the 'Dreel Castle' in connection with a relatives WW1 service.

My copy was printed in 2000 and the first edition was in 1992, I think.

Here are the details in case you want to contact the publisher.

'Shore Establishments of the Royal Navy.'

(Being a list of the Static Ships & Establishments of the Royal Navy)

Compiled by Lt. Cdr. B. Warlow, R.N.

Published by Maritime Books, Lodge Hill, Liskeard, Cornwall

Tel. 01579 343663

Fax. 01579 346747

ISBN 0 907771 73 4

It is a listing, without pictures as it says and as an example, it has about 5 lines about the Dreel Castle giving location and dates when it operated. It is useful and seems quite comprehensive.

Can't remember how much it was but it is a softback and was not expensive.

Hi Kate,

I just checked thier website (its a very good site actually - some real nice titles there) & they have a copy in p/b, so I have emailed & requested if it might still be available & the Air post costs to canada.

Again, thanks very much for putting me onto this company !

It is worth every penny (or cent).

I only bought a copy out of curiosity two years ago and I have used it on dozens of occasions - often to help with queries on the Forum!

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the info!

I have heard its a very informative book - I am a specialist in RN medals for the Victorian to just post WWI period, & I dont have much info on the shore establishments & would like to get something definitive on them - I understand this is the book to have. I dont know what the timeframe is but expect it covers Victorian & thru both wars & goes up to modern times as well???

I have never seen a copy in Canada.

I have e mailed Maritime Books about obtaining a copy. This company has a very extensive listing of Naval books & needs a couple hours to search all the titles. Would love to visit their retail outlet!

It covers all periods from the earliest naval stations to the date of publication.

It is amazing how many 'ships' you see quoted turn out to be made of concrete and are miles inland!

Having a copy I must say that I have found it to be a great help when identifying "ships" that men have served in/on.
