4thGordons Posted 10 August , 2011 Share Posted 10 August , 2011 I just picked up this photo of and assmebly of French and American Officers, NCOs and Men apparently taken after the fighting at Cantigny in which US troops were supported by French Tanks. Can anyone identify the unit or tank based on the sign and number shown here? There seems to be a good selection of uniform details too. Thanks in advance Chris
centurion Posted 10 August , 2011 Share Posted 10 August , 2011 Three batteries of Schneider tanks were used at Cantigny. The tanks advanced through gaps in a barrage with the 28th US Infantry close behind. All 12 tanks reached their objective and rallied. No tank losses

4thGordons Posted 11 August , 2011 Author Share Posted 11 August , 2011 From AS 5 ? Thanks both - that gives me a start. "Croonaert" is that your interpretation of the letters on the tank in the detail? PS thanks for the CD - picked it up from my mum and spent most of yesterday going through it. Excellent prep for a possible visit in the Spring.
Tom W. Posted 11 August , 2011 Share Posted 11 August , 2011 Thanks both - that gives me a start. "Croonaert" is that your interpretation of the letters on the tank in the detail? "AS" stands for Artillerie Spéciale. Groupe AS 5 fought at Cantigny. It was a battalion-sized unit with 12 Schneider tanks.
