Guest Hill 60 Posted 11 July , 2004 Share Posted 11 July , 2004 Seen on today's Teletex (East Anglia) WAR MEMORIAL MAY BE RESTORED A wartime memorial in Norfolk to a brave Canadian airman could soon be restored, it has emerged. Lt Joseph Phillips, 21, steered his stricken biplane away from the populated area of Harleston in July 1917, crashing in surrounding farmland. A memorial at Redenhall has fallen into disrepair but Harleston tourism chiefs are discussing restoration work. I've had a look in Higney's 'The CEF Roll of Honour' and found the following information on Lt Phillips (page 603). 2nd Lt Joseph Leo Phillips, RFC (25 Tr Sqn) died of wounds on 20 July 1917 and buried Nf209 (Norwich Cemetery, Norwich CB).
