DCLI Posted 11 July , 2004 Share Posted 11 July , 2004 My granfather who served throughout the Great War also served in the Home Gard in the Second World War, as a CQMS - would he have been entitled to any medals for the Home Guard bit? regards
mutley Posted 11 July , 2004 Share Posted 11 July , 2004 DCLI I would have thought that he would be entitled to a Defence Medal, it all depends how long he was in the Home Guard for. To qualify he would have to have had three years service at home. I have a group of medals to a Pte in the 1st Devons who then went on to be a Sgt in the Home Guard and then a Sgt in the RA territorials. Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 12 July , 2004 Share Posted 12 July , 2004 Interesting - the 3 years for Home Guard duty was not always adhered to strictly. I have the certificate and defence medal to a WW1 veteran who served for 2 years 6 months! Ian
