My Great Uncle, Pte. Thomas Spence was captured in March of 1918. He was in the 1/7th Black Watc, part of the 153rd. Inf. Brigade. Which version of the Lee-Enfield would he have been carrying?

By 1918 there were only SMLE Mark III and Mark III* rifles in the field, so that is what he would have been carrying.

The only difference between them was that the Mark III* had been slightly simplified to ease production; lack of volley sights, magazine cut-off, windage adjustment on rear sight etc.
