Military Cross, medal guides

Hello all,

being new to medals as such and wanting to start collecting I was wondering if there were any books I should have to point me in the right direction. I have a copy of British and Irish campaign medals volume 2 1899 to 2009 but that is all.

Also can an one tell me what size a real military cross would be and would it be named on the back as in a 14/15 star of would it not have any name and rank on it.

The MC was always issued unnamed but was often privately named by the recipient.

Rich, I would say the current version of Medals Yearbook 2011 is a must when it comes to collecting medals, not only for descriptions/images of all British & most Commonwealth medals but it also includes valuations for current medals.

That would be the best starting point book wise and yes, as Ken suggests, British Medals Forum is also an excellent website
