Remembered Today:

A slightly different 1918 jacket...

An original 1918 London Metropolitan Police jacket I acquired last year. This had been disposed of by Angels the Costumiers, and I bought for £5, and have been in the process of restoring it since:

This is the jacket as I received it, the 1918 mark and what is evidently a form of sold out of service mark or similar, as I have had a couple of Police items in the past with the same applied mark:

Constables issue marks - 5/10 over 12A on both lapels:

Another issue number, this time to Bermans and Nathans, and in one sleeve a large stencilled 131 over MP over 8:

The original slightly random assortment of horn issue Police buttons that came attached:

It took me over a year, but I eventually got enough of the correct pattern Kings Crown Metropolitan Police buttons to get a good matched set:

And several hours sewing later:

There were also only the very sad remains of the original leather tab left at the collar, so I replaced it using an indentical one from another jacket:

Last one - the stitching on the collar and sleeves in various place needed a little work, so I sorted it out. It's been somewhat messed about in it's life, but I think I've got it back to where it started:

A nice job of work, Andrew. I hope you can find the headwear to go with it!

Thanks for that, although it's not the headwear that proving elusive but the helmet plate:
