jay dubaya Posted 26 June , 2011 Share Posted 26 June , 2011 Florent, it may be worth trawling through this thread here or indeed make a request to Arthur and see if the battalions are listed in his little book, Jon
john gregory Posted 26 June , 2011 Share Posted 26 June , 2011 9th Welsh, green square with yellow border in cotton. 8th Glosters, red ( top ), yellow, blue ( bottom ) square in felt. I thought it was the 6th Wilts in the 19th Div. if so it was 6th Wilts green rectangle with yellow border in cotton.
Florent Posted 27 June , 2011 Author Share Posted 27 June , 2011 I thought it was the 6th Wilts in the 19th Div. if so it was 6th Wilts green rectangle with yellow border in cotton. Thanks for your help. I will have a look on Arthur thread. For John, 2nd Wilts replaced the 6th on April 1918. I suppose the 2nd used the same patch than the 6th, as in the same place in the 58th brigade. Florent

AndrewThornton Posted 7 September , 2012 Share Posted 7 September , 2012 9th Cheshire - green inverted triangle with yellow border 2 1/2 " sides in cotton 4th KSLI - ? 10th Worcs - ? 10th Warwicks - blue & yellow ( bottom ) square in felt 9th RWF - green triangle with yellow border in cotton 5th SWB - ? John I noted that there was a jacket on display at the Shropshire Regimental Museum at Shrewsbury Castle attributed to the 1/4th KSLI which had a purple square on the upper arms. Above that was the Croix de Guerre ribbon avec Palme, but this was added after the battalion had been decorated for their conduct at Mont de Bligny
Armyaviation Posted 7 September , 2012 Share Posted 7 September , 2012 so did each individual battalion have its on patch/TRF then? i asked the question a while back ref 14th A and SH and was informed they wore the Div patch
AndrewThornton Posted 7 September , 2012 Share Posted 7 September , 2012 Each division had their own scheme of patches/insignia (or no patches at all) so there was no standardisation, unlike with Tactical Recognition Flashes of today's British Army. That is what makes researching this subject so interesting as there is so much still to be discovered and so much contradictory evidence in documents and photographs of what was worn. trenchtrotter Posted 7 September , 2012 Share Posted 7 September , 2012 Andrew, I have recently had access to some medals , photos and ephemera to a chap who served with 1/4 KSLI during the entire war. He was a relative of a collegue. I had access to his medals, buttons, badges and most intersting two cloth patches which were the Croix de Guerre ribbon with palms! I had access to photos of him pre 1918 and in uniform late 1918 with overseas chevrons and no battle patches worn. Unfortunately not an exacr science. Clearly he wore patches but not on the tunic in the photo! Regards TT
