ianw Posted 9 July , 2004 Share Posted 9 July , 2004 The only meeting between these Great War poets took place at breakfast. Sassoon felt rather patronised by Brooke but was captivated by Brooke's "living blue" eyes.Brooke was at his most languid and Sassoon commented sniffily that Brooke's hair was "just a shade longer than it need have been".Brooke took Sassoon to task for some ill-judged criticism of Kipling's poetry. Sassoon unhappily concluded that Brooke was bored with him.Brooke continued his effortless movements at the apex of society , dining with Henry James the next day and with the Asquiths at Downing St a week later !
