nigatt Posted 13 June , 2011 Share Posted 13 June , 2011 My great uncle, Pte Joseph Ellis, served in the 1st Leicesters during the Boer War and was awarded the Queens SA Medal. His army service number was 5729. He was on the Army Reserve from 1908. Upon mobilisation in August 1914 he was posted to the 3rd Bn Leicestershire Regiment. He was transferred to the Labour Corps 508 Home Service Employment Company on 30 June 1917. His new army service number was 334067. he was demobbed 5 March 1919. My question is this would he have been entitled to the BWM/BVM?
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 13 June , 2011 Share Posted 13 June , 2011 No; home service per se didnt qualify for Campaign Medals, there were some exceptions Coast Defences & Aerial Combattants, some Naval Staff etc;received the BWM; but Home Deployment in the Labour Corp would not have qualified, many men discharged for purely Home Service would have been eligible for the Silver War Badge however.
