Hi,

Can anyone help with identification of the black & white shoulder patch or any other clues on the uniform regarding the service of this young man?

Many thanks for looking

Someone else will be able to help with his cloth formation sign and if you can do a smaller picture of his shoulder it ought to be possible to ID his regiment from the brass brass title in his strap.

The 2nd East Lancashire Bn. wore a red (left) and white disc before Feb.1918.

Thanks BG I don't know if this will help.

No, unfortunately too blurred other that to say it is one of many curved titles that existed within the infantry, but not (generally) cavalry, or Corps and Departments. So he is almost certainly an infantryman.

Hi John

Many thanks, can you explain why this was and what if any significance it had, was this common or just the 2nd E Lancs

Looking at it in light of the info regarding the cloth badge it does look as if it could be the East Lancashires, you can just about make out the shape of the letters.

And as his badge would have been.
