Anthony Pigott Posted 8 July , 2004 Share Posted 8 July , 2004 I've just acquired a little book entitled: A General's Letters to His Son on Obtaining His Commission, Cassell 1917. There's an introduction by Gen. Smith-Dorrien dated May 1st 1917. He describes the author as a General Officer with 38 years service. Does anyone know of the book and who the author might be? Thanks. charlesmessenger Posted 8 July , 2004 Share Posted 8 July , 2004 This one has come up before on the Forum. The author was Maj Gen T S Pilcher, who commanded 17th Division until his removal from command in July 1916 on the Somme. Charles M

I should have searched first (again! ) - though I did a Google search which usually pulls out items on this forum. Do we know of a connection with S.-D.?
