I've just acquired a little book entitled: A General's Letters to His Son on Obtaining His Commission, Cassell 1917.

There's an introduction by Gen. Smith-Dorrien dated May 1st 1917. He describes the author as a General Officer with 38 years service.

Does anyone know of the book and who the author might be? Thanks.

Anthony

This one has come up before on the Forum. The author was Maj Gen T S Pilcher, who commanded 17th Division until his removal from command in July 1916 on the Somme.

Thanks for that. I should have searched first (again! ) - though I did a Google search which usually pulls out items on this forum.

Do we know of a connection with S.-D.?

Regards

Anthony
