stephen p nunn Posted 22 May , 2011 Share Posted 22 May , 2011 Dear all, I am trying to locate a trench map that would be relevant to the Hooge area in August 1917. In particular I am keen to locate the front line trenches in the Inverness Copse Sector; the front line that crossed the Menin Road in a north to south direction between Clapham Junction and the western edge of Inverness Copse. Also the support trenches in Crab Crawl and reserve positions at Zillebeke Bund and Railway Dugouts. I understand that a front line east of Stirling Castle and South of the Menin Road was in place on 20th/21st August (with an HQ at the junction of Jam Avenue and Jam Reserve Trench, near Stirling Castle. The stage that I am really interested in was on the 22/8/17 when orders were given for the SLI and DCLI to go over the top and capture a line from Herenthage Chateau to the Southern edge of Glencourse Wood, Fitzclarence Farm and the "L" shaped farm along the road to the former farm. I trying to pin point where a SLI officer fell that day (on the right of that line). Any help with a map really appreciated. Best regards. Roger H Posted 22 May , 2011 Share Posted 22 May , 2011 Crab Crawl Trench is one of the trenches in square 24d, but unfortunately is not named. Perhaps someone with Linesman might be able to help? Roger
