Kath Posted 6 July , 2004 Share Posted 6 July , 2004 Can anyone give more details on this Britsh military band, please? Pic. on tour in Canada 1913 Kath.
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 7 July , 2004 Share Posted 7 July , 2004 Kath The instruments in the photo are brass band related rather than a military band. There does not appear to be any woodwind instruments and some of the brass instruments on view would not ordinarily be used in a military band. The dress of the personnel is also not even i.e. different coats. This could be a touring Brass Band or possibly a Salvation Army Band - although I would have expected to see a flag if it was. Can you read the writing at the bottom? Dave
Kath Posted 7 July , 2004 Author Share Posted 7 July , 2004 Dear Dave, Thank you very much for your detailed appraisal of the post card. Its title is: Group at Port Dalhousie. The description 'Military Band' is only written in pencil on the back, perhaps by a post card dealer. Another pc. shows 'A Brotherhood Service On Board' (the Royal Edward). Perhaps this term is used by the Sally Army. Kath.
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 15 July , 2004 Share Posted 15 July , 2004 Kath The Mens Brotherhood was/is a Baptist organisation. It is not a term used by the SA. SA Bands often supported/still support other organisations by providing music for both indoor and open-air services. (I played in one for 40 years) Dave
