4thGordons Posted 12 May , 2011 Share Posted 12 May , 2011 Can anyone identify this medal ribbon? It was with a collection of other great war insignia, some things appear to be foreign "bring back" items. The only other ribbon with it was a ribbon for the 1916 US Mexican Border Campaign. Any assistance appreciated, Chris
sutton-in-craven Posted 12 May , 2011 Share Posted 12 May , 2011 Well there are 28 pages of medal ribbons photographed in the Medal Yearbook 2011 which features British & Commonwealth medals & their ribbons. I've had a look and can't see it listed there, the nearest it comes to is the WW2 British Defence medal, except it doesn't have the 2 thin black lines running down. So I'd have to assume it's a foreign ribbon of some sorts.

Any assistance appreciated, Chris British Turkish Crimea Medal 1855 or Natal Native Rebellion Medal 1906, both very similar to each other and to yours. Hard to tell with faded ribbons. sutton-in-craven Posted 14 May , 2011 Share Posted 14 May , 2011 The only thing that cmes to my mind - and I don't think it's an American ribbon - is the 1878-80 Afghanistan Medal (if British). The 1878-80 Afghanistan Medal ribbon has a green centre and crimson edges, whereas the unidentified ribbon has a crimson centre and green edges (the opposite). The nearest the unidentified ribbon comes is the WW2 British Defence Medal, but it lacks the 2 narrow black stripes in the middle of the green edges. Therefore I believe it to be a foreign ribbon
dragyn Posted 14 May , 2011 Share Posted 14 May , 2011 Could be the National Order of Merit from Benin, or the Order of Jihad from Libya, take a look at this site http://www.medals.org.uk/index.htm Dragyn

That's a great website by the way for checking out foreign medals and their ribbons.
