pioneer Posted 11 May , 2011 Share Posted 11 May , 2011 Can Any one help Identify this hat? I have been told that it is a WW1 Guards hat? Would this be right? I had a WW1 Canadian hat once and this seems similar. Regards Pioneer
Wardog Posted 11 May , 2011 Share Posted 11 May , 2011 Modern type and set up I think, probably most commonly used by The Household Cavalry. Regards, Paul.

Regards Pioneer It is the SD cap still issued to the mounted troops of the Household Division, including the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery and attached veterinary personnel. Until the late 1970s it was worn by the RMP and until the late 1960s by the SASC. The 'setting up' of the cap (i.e. creating the sharp downwards sweep of the peak) indicates it was almost certainly used by the Household Cavalry. Andrew Upton Posted 12 May , 2011 Share Posted 12 May , 2011 Modern type and set up I think, probably most commonly used by The Household Cavalry. Also looks like "staybright" buttons as well, which would be another good indicator of it being of fairly recent vintage.

FROGSMILE Posted 12 May , 2011 Share Posted 12 May , 2011 Or with that nice slashed peak possibly MPSC. Yes, a good point. I inadertently omitted MPSC, who did indeed keep the cap well after the SASC and RMP and into the late 1980s, early 90s. They stopped after small detachments started to be sent to the Balkans.
