Proud grandson Posted 9 May , 2011 Share Posted 9 May , 2011 Were London St John Ambulance members in WW1 able to wear the Prince of Wales plume on their collars as thier district was called such? If not other explanations would be appreciated.
Hurricane1 Posted 19 June , 2011 Share Posted 19 June , 2011 Hi Michael, In answer to your question, not as far as I am aware. The St John Ambulance Brigade/Association did provide two units (at least) for the RAMC. At Etaples there was a Stationary Hospital from 1915 and in November 1914 the SJA provided a complete Field Ambulance (130th) for the 38th (Welsh) Division. For the first few months of its existance its members wore their own SJA uniforms. When they were issued with army uniform they were allowed to keep their St John insignia on their sleeve.
