shippingsteel Posted 7 May , 2011 Share Posted 7 May , 2011 Speaking of the Birmingham proof house, here is a picture of a bayonet ricasso that bears the seldom seen "B" stamp that signifies Birmingham inspection. This particular P1903 bayonet was carried by a member of a Royal Engineer unit during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. (148th Army Troop Company, RE) The maker's name stamped is that of R.Mole & Son, who was a prominent bayonet and sword-making firm also based in Birmingham. Note the unusual 'broad arrow'.
