I seem to remember seeing an obituary in the earlier 1980s of a Cavalry officer who was described at the time as perhaps one of the last surviving pre-1914 regular officers - I know of another (an RFA subaltern commissioned in 1911) who survived until 1987, aged 94, or so... but would suspect that there were not that many left even then..
