Hi,

I'm trying to find out about my great uncle. All I have is this photo - any information that can be derived about his role / regiment would be gratefully received. With the name of Smith I need all the help I can get!

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

The cap badge appears to be that of the Norfolk Regiment.

Yes he is a soldier of the Norfolk Regiment wearing a utility pattern SD tunic, and belt from the 1914 Leather Equipment set that is so typical of a volunteer in a 'Service' (i.e. war raised) Battalion in late 1915, early 1916. Notice the pocket watch 'T-bar' through the button hole of the top right hand pocket of his jacket.
