Remembered Today:

Accessory No 1

I am currently researching a soldier in the 8th Bn Devon Regt who was KIA 25 Sept 15, another forum member has been kind enough to provide me with a copy of the Bn War Diary for the day in question and on reading it I have come across two references to "Accessory No1". The second reference states that one of the Devon's officers was killed by it "Lt Dodgson apparently killed by accessory No1". Does anybody know what it is?? Is this a reference to gas??

Thanks in advance

Chris

many thanks, from the diary it looks as though the attack in question was slowed by the number of troops attempting to get through gaps in the wire and the two supporting lines caught up with the first wave and the wind changed and brought their own gas on top of them. Thanks for clarifying.
