Ron Clifton Posted 17 April , 2011 Share Posted 17 April , 2011 Garrison duty, as in peacetime, plus being available as a general reserve in case extra troops were needed suddenly in the Mediterranean area. The troops in Malta had a similar task, as did those in many of the overseas stations other than India. Regular troops stationed there in Aug 1914 were mostly brought back to the UK to form new divisions (7th, 8th, 27th, 28th and 29th), their places being taken by Territorial units.
