alistair_m Posted 14 April , 2011 Share Posted 14 April , 2011 Hi All, Im hoping to trace some information about two of my ancestors who fought, and in one case died during WW1. In this instance, Im looking to find out more about my Great Uncle, Arthur Lawson, who died apparently in Salonkia, and is remembered at the Karasouli Cemetery. The information I have for Arthur is as follows: Rank: 2nd Lt Place of Death: Salonika Date of Death: 19th Nov 1916 Regiment: 11th Battalion Gordon Highlanders Attached: Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) Memorial Inscription: "In memory of 2nd Lt AC Lawson, Gordon Highlanders, 19th Nov 1916, Age 20. Buried in Horse Shot Cemetery" My questions are: Can any one help with what action took place on that day involving, presumably the Scottish Rifles? Are there any War Diaries that may report on his death? Why would he have been attached to a different Regiment? Where and what is "Horse Shot Cemetery"? Many thanks in advnace Alistair
