In the 1901 census my Grandfather, John Arthur Heatley, was stationed at Leith Fort as a 20 year old RGA gunner, but I do not known what unit he was in, can anyone help please. I would like to trace his movements as in 1906 whilst still in the army he married my Grandmother in Southampton.

A bit pre-war but he may here - http://www.findmypas...ch-start.action

Medal Index Card

Name: John A Heatley

Regiment or Corps: Royal Garrison Artillery, Royal Garrison Artillery

Regimental Number: 3534, 278534

Thanks for the suggestion, I checked it out, but they only show one John Heatley, and he was in the 11th Hussars 1886-1894.

This link may be of interest. It list the locations of units in 1902.

Thanks Dave, the link is certainly of interest, it shows units 21 and 22 at Leith and also shows units 25 and 26 at Fareham, (my Grandmother was working as a nurse in Fareham 1901) the problem is that I do not know what unit my grandfather was in, the regimental number shown previously refers to his service when he re-joined the Army in 1914. He was London born and bred and must have originally joined up there some time around 1900.

There are 5 John Heatleys shown on my link

HEATLEY John 1855 Piley, Glamorganshire

HEATLEY John 1871 Belfast, Antrim

HEATLEY John 1880 Belfast, Antrim

HEATLEY John 1882 Preston, Lancashire

HEATLEY John ?

Sorry, yes you are correct, but after applying the county of birth and the year of birth to the search, the result showed only the Heatley John ?
