Terry Carter Posted 3 July , 2004 Share Posted 3 July , 2004 In Dartmoor Cemetery Becordel-Becourt there are two graves, side by side, of a Father and Son, Sgt George Lee and Cpl Robert Lee, who both served in "A" Battery, 156 Bde, Royal Field Artillery. They were killed on 5 September, 1916. Does any Forum member know if this type of incident has happened elsewhere in France and Flanders? By the way, it is the same cemetery where Lt Henry Webber (7th South Lancs) aged 68, is buried. Thanks in anticipation Regards Terry
Jonathan Saunders Posted 3 July , 2004 Share Posted 3 July , 2004 Not F&F but HMS Vanguard. I think I have posted this on a similar thread before some time ago (so apologies for repeat) but: Stoker 1st Class K/25596 George Frederick Thomas Coombes aged 20 Son of Matilda Coombes of 8 Toulmin St., Gt. Suffolk St., Borough, London. Native of Camberwell and his father. Stoker 2nd Class K/39370 George Thomas Coombes aged 40 Husband of Matilda Coombes of 8 Toulmin St., etc ... Native of Camberwell who obviously joined up, or was called up, sometime after his son.
Max Posted 3 July , 2004 Share Posted 3 July , 2004 This is from the mothersite: 2 May 1915: Father and son die together William Pritchard, 42, and his son Reginald, 19, died whilst serving with 3rd Battalion, the Monmouthshire Regiment. Husband and son of Mary Pritchard, of "Sunny Meade," Mardy, Abergavenny. They have no known graves, and are commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, Ypres. CROONAERT Posted 3 July , 2004 Share Posted 3 July , 2004 Not the same war, but a little research proved these to be father and son killed on the same day and buried together at Bitburg Ehrenfriedhof. (Another son ,aged 11 ,was also killed around the same time elsewhere in an air raid(?)) . Unsure of the fate of the mother/wife. Dave.
Paul Reed Posted 4 July , 2004 Share Posted 4 July , 2004 Lt-Col Harry Moorhouse DSO (father) and Captain Ronald Moorhose (son) were both killed with 1/4 KOYLI on 9th October 1917; both are commemorated on Tyne Cot. Details of them appear in a certain book on the Ypres battlefields, but ever mindful of the rules about advertising, I cannot mention it's name here. A photo from it below, of the father and son.
