Leading Seaman David Henderson

Black Watch

Recommended Posts

This man appears on the Carnoustie War memorial.

His entry on CWGC states Leading Seaman David Henderson 147753 (PO) HMS Victory.

What would the PO stand for?

I assume he didn't actually serve on the "Victory" but more likely onshore in Portsmouth.

Any help appreciated.

Neil

Neil,

In this case the (PO) would be for Portsmouth, & Victory was also the Naval Barracks at Portsmouth.

He was born 31st January 1873 at Tealing, Kirkton, Forfarshire. His service record is available online from the National Archives, ADM 188/210.

David.
