MelPack Posted 6 April , 2011 Share Posted 6 April , 2011 Can someone remind me of the CWGC's protocol on the adoption of the plot and a replacement headstone where a newly commemorated soldier shares a grave with someone else? Mel
Terry Denham Posted 6 April , 2011 Author Share Posted 6 April , 2011 If it is a private grave, they will seek permission to erect a CWGC stone - assuming there is no adequate private memorial in place bearing the casualty's name. If there is already a private stone with the name in place, they simply will inspect it periodically to check the casualty's name is readable. If they erect a separate stone (often at the foot of the grave), it will not bear any name other than the casualty's. Should the NoK wish to add a spouse's name, they can do so at the bottom where the Personal Inscription normally appears though this is at their own cost.
