Lachlan Posted 22 March , 2011 Share Posted 22 March , 2011 This soldier is, I believe, a relative of mine, a Gow from Perthshire. He is wearing what to me looks like the uniform of the Scottish Horse and most likely he was based in Balir Atholl. Is this uniform consistent with being worn during the Great War, or was it worn pre-war only ?
loganshort Posted 22 March , 2011 Share Posted 22 March , 2011 Nice pic. Looks exactly like my Grandfather's SH uniform in 1916, minus his bandolier.

Yes, he is Scottish Horse and the uniform was worn in WW1, as you can see on the man far left in this photo. The 3 buttons on the cuff were very distinctive. Lachlan Posted 23 March , 2011 Author Share Posted 23 March , 2011 Very nice pix all round ! The group photo looks to be Yeomanry units and there seem to be a few Lovats too, without the collar-dogs and buttoned cuffs. Am I right on that ?
