90th Anniversary of the first Battle of the Marne

the national ceremony to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the first Battle of the Marne will take place at Mondement, Marne, on Sunday, 5 September 2004, in the presence of delegations from all the nations involved in the battle.

This is an incredible WW1 site. You have the enormous monument that has to be seen to be believed, 40 tons of pink stone! You look across the St Gond Marshes, lovely, & you stand between the chataeu Germans took & the church they did not - just where they were stopped - with little between them and Paris & victory.
