Remembering the 365 men of the South Downs Battalions Royal Sussex Regiment who died at Richebourg on 30th June 1916, 88 years ago today, in what the surviving veterans called "The Day Sussex Died", along with the 1,100 wounded. Not forgotten...

Below is a photo of men of D Company 11th Royal Sussex (1st South Downs) who suffered 95% casualties in this battle.

In memory of the five Steyning men of the Royal Sussex Regiment who died as a result of the action at Richebourg.

William Bennett Private SD/3288 13th Battalion

Edward Bristow Private SD/3300 13th Battalion

and his brother

Frederick Bristow Private SD/3299 13th Battalion

John Goldsmith L/Cpl SD/3722 13th Battalion

William Reed Private SD/4938 12th Battalion

The worst day for Steyning casualties of the whole war.
