Readers might be interested in the latest Fattorini medal I have acquired for my collection:

Can anyone tell me more about how the medal was won, who it might have been awarded to, who competed for it etc. etc. There' s a challenge for you all......thanks!

Details are:

A vintage silver fob medal with a blank gold plated cartouche to the front



Awarded to the 2/1 Lancashire Fusiliers Brigade for competing in a football league in 1915 -16

Measures 2.8cm by 2.4cm excluding the hanging loop

Weight 12.7g.

Hallmarked for Birmingham 1913.



Connecting ring marked with the sterling lion.

Stamped with the maker's details, Fattorini, Skipton.



Also stamped with two overlapping sets of initials, TF and possibly RC

Assuming it was awarded for a competition played while on active service abroad.

The Battalion War Diary may contain full details of the competition and scores.I know of one Battalion War Diary which fully records its scores,competitors,prizes awarded when winning the 1915/16 Divisional Football Competition. :D

Thanks George......do you (or another) know the reference number(s) for the 2/1 Lancashire Fusiliers BN War Diaries for 1915 & 1916 at the National Archives at Kew please? :thumbsup:
