Remembered Today:

186 squadron 1919

I have a squadron photo of 186 Sqn when it was the RAF Torpedo Development Unit at Gosport in 1919. My great-grandfather was in the RN and was posted there as a torpedo instructor. On the back a few names are identified, including the squadron leader (Pulford), and also "S.M.1 Attrill". Does anyone know what rank this was? Was it RN?

Thanks

Jon

Salvage Mechanic First Class - it would be his responsibility to recover the fired torpedos (which set to peace time standards would float at the end of their run).

Edit Still used

His RN number was 155015, I have been researching him for a while now and have all his service records. He joined as a Boy in 1890 and retired as Lt-Cdr in 1930, earning a DSC along the way. He spent most of his career in Torpedoes.
