Guest mikehp Posted 4 March , 2011 Share Posted 4 March , 2011 My father was a member of the 98th LRTTC. his story is that he had christmas Dinner under canvas in Ferenze Italy and then entrained to Taranto and embarqued on the HM troopship Osmanieh. this vessel as torpedoed or mined off Alexandria on 31 Dec 1917. I have a postcard listing the officers and men of the company with a Rollof Honour of those who died as a result of the sinking. I assume he followed Allenby through Paleatine as i have photos with Ramleh and De'erra on the back. At some point he must have been redeployed to Audrique in France as there is a photo taken there. Father said that they were repatriating railway material after the armistice. . Can anyone point me towards more detail of the movements of this unit? Did they cross the channel and take train(s) all the way racross France to Taranto? If so in what timescale? What were their movements in Palastine and when did they move to Audrique? For info the CO was capt S L Baister with Lts Cunnington, Cresswell, Craig & Whelan
