centurion Posted 3 March , 2011 Share Posted 3 March , 2011 Is it true that the "stock" was only discontinued in 1913? Colin. Depends I think on what you mean by stock. AFAIK the old black leather stock ceased to be used in armies round the the world in about the third quarter of the 19th Century, the US Marine Corps being one of the last to dispense with them, but soft cloth stocks were used as a collar protector for some time since. A German army soft grey stock was still being issued during WW1.
bantamforgot Posted 3 March , 2011 Author Share Posted 3 March , 2011 Many thanks Centurion , I came across a picture of some officers of the Fusiliers , prior to ww1 & they all appear to have a"stock" fitted but no way of checking the type. However I was amazed to find that the stock was only discontinued in 1913. Thanks. Colin.
