Remembered Today:

Shell Cartridge Headstamp

I have just picked up a few bits and bobs and was wondering if any members might be able to help me work out what the various stamps mean.

The first item is a very shallow item, and I'm not sure if it has been cut down to make a small coin tray type item. I assume it's not English (possibly French or German), and I assume it dates to 1910. It is 3.5" across (on the base) and c.1.5" tall.

I hope all of the stamps can be seen in the photo. The only one which is not very clear is an S8 stamp near the centre top.

Any help would be great,

Johnnie

And another image of the item.

German artillery is not my field at all, but it looks like a cut down German 77mm made by Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe, a major German ammunition producer. As you thought, it was made in May 1910.

I am sure others can give more info.
