Myrtle Posted 24 June , 2004 Share Posted 24 June , 2004 I came across a memorial plaque today (sadly in poor condition) which commemorates Signaller Samuel Savill Poyer RGA. The plaque states that he was buried at Mendoc New Cemetery Belgium. When I checked CWGC he is said to be buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery. Does anyone know if the name of the cemetery changed or was his body moved ? Myrtle
Bob Coulson Posted 24 June , 2004 Share Posted 24 June , 2004 Mendinghem was a name dreamt up by the troops as was Dozinghem and Bandaghem. Perhaps Mendoc was the official name? Bob.
Myrtle Posted 25 June , 2004 Author Share Posted 25 June , 2004 Bob Thanks for your thoughts on the reasons for the use of Mendoc. I will need to do some research on this one. Myrtle
