trsp62 Posted 9 January , 2011 Share Posted 9 January , 2011 Someone in another thread referred to the Pathe news archive web site, so I thought I'd have a look and there are at least a couple of news films from Salonika here. TimP

Rockdoc Posted 10 January , 2011 Share Posted 10 January , 2011 THIS one is intriguing. The opening shows men crouched in and around the remains of a heavily-riveted metal structure. If it were part of the construction of the Birdcage it would perhaps be understandable but I don't think it is, all the more so since the men are clearly wary of being shot at and the Central Powers never crossed the Greek border. The gunners at 38 seconds are not wearing tin hats - are those Gor Blimeys? So can we say this this is summer 1916? The solar topees may be dating evidence since at least some troops in early summer 1916 were issued with slouch hats to keep the sun off.
