Raster Scanning Posted 21 June , 2004 Share Posted 21 June , 2004 This picture was taken by Captain A E Percival (of Singapore fame). He was then in charge of 'A' Coy of the 7th Beds Rgt. The caption is " Becordel, Jan 1916 " does anyone know what this building was? Another long shot but who knows. Thanks. John.
Paul Reed Posted 25 June , 2004 Share Posted 25 June , 2004 Looks like a standard Picardy brick built house to me. Too small to be anything special in the village, I suspect.
CROONAERT Posted 26 June , 2004 Share Posted 26 June , 2004 The caption is " Becordel, Jan 1916 " does anyone know what this building was? Possibly this one (though the lay of the building is in the wrong direction - not impossible on OS maps!) ? Dave
Raster Scanning Posted 27 June , 2004 Author Share Posted 27 June , 2004 Thanks Paul and Dave. Can you tell me how badly Becordel was damaged during the war? I would like to visit the area sometime. Dave, what year was the map? Thanks again. John.

Not too sure on the total damage throughout the war (Paul could probably answer that one better than me), but you can see on the map (June 1916, to answer your question!) that the centre of the village was pretty much destroyed by that stage. (Shaded buildings on the map signifying that they were destroyed or damaged). Dave.

Paul Reed Posted 27 June , 2004 Share Posted 27 June , 2004 Like all Somme villages in the 1916 area, nothing remains from pre-WW1.
