Raster Scanning Posted 21 June , 2004 Share Posted 21 June , 2004 This picture was taken at Aldershot in 1914. These are the Sjts of the 7th Bedfordshire Rgt. The Battalion was based at Mandora Barracks at the time and I wondered if anyone who lives near (or in) Aldershot recognises the location. Mandora Barracks have long since gone I wondered if this was taken in the grounds and if the distinctive (and now expensive) houses still exist? A long shot I know but I would appreciate any ideas. Many thanks. John.

The barracks are named in commemoration of Wellington's victory. These barracks were designed for the infantry and built to replace the hutted encampment of the 1850s. Demolished in 1970. The Officer's Mess still remains and was used by the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC) until 1995. It was known as McGrigor's Mess following the demolition of the rest of Mandora Barracks Mandora Barracks Date of construction 1895 Date of demolition 1970
