gday

Im wondering if anybody might have trench maps for the Flesquieres area including Cantaing for around the battle of Cambrai Nov 1917.

Im also trying to find the maps showing the movements and boundaries for the 51st Division and its Brigades for the 20th to the 22nd of November 1917.

I hope someone might be able to help me

Thanks

Toby

Gday Malcolm

Thankyou for that.

Ive got the 51st Histroy from a free download and have a copy of the map you mention.

Ive breifly seen what looked like the Battle maps for the attack on Flesquires and Cantaing. It showed the Divisions and Brigades boundaries as well as the Brigades objectives such as the red line etc .

The person that had it was very reluctant to share and Im assuming it was obtained at Kew?

Thanks again for the help

Hi Toby. You probably mean the Maps from the Official Histories HERE I have the CD-ROM but it's not possible, or legal to copy and send on. They prefer you to but it

I will have a rake, and see if I can find anything and pm you.

On page 212 of Volume 7 HERE Some interesting photos etc on Cambrai/Cantaing. Not sure if those pictured are Gordon Highlanders though?

The Highland Territorials seen in the

lower illustration crossing a German trench, stormed Flesquires,

where there was "fierce fighting." They swept across the German

second line to beyond Cantaing, taking 500 prisoners, and halted

five miles beyond the former German front.

That is an rather odd rendering of the picture but I think this is indeed a picture of the 4th Gordons crossing the trenchline - on the original version (IWM) it is possible to make out the three blue stripes (3Bn 154Bde) on some of the men's shoulders and helmets. I think Toby has this picture.

I have a sketch map from the Cantaing area somewhere.

Hi Chris. Sorry about the quality of the photo. I downloaded the B/W pdf, then copied the photo using 'snipping tool' so lost a lot of the quality. Good quality if you download the colour pdf. ( The photo will still be in black and white though)?

Mike your link to the Volumes of the War images books is great. I often see sections of these being sold on e-bay as reprints.

Apologies - I misremembered - it is a map of Famars (1918).
