Gordons Sports Team

Recent find.

A pre war photo of a Gordons Sports team - but I cannot decide from the number/dress/physique what sport might be involved here.

Officer's uniform is interesting in that it shows the shield shaped badge, as worn on sporran, as a collar brass. I know this was being worn in 1909 but I think was replaced very soon after that. Any ideas on the sport? Athletics? Tug of war?

I am led to believe the photo was taken at Colchester.

Could be gymnastics team (vaulting the box, somersaults etc) as that was often the kind of dress worn. Shorts, singlets canvas shoes and socks rolled down. I am not disputing Colchester, but that exact style of barracks existed at Tidworth too. I lived in one for 4-years and recognise the backdrop to the photo.
