4thGordons Posted 4 December , 2010 Share Posted 4 December , 2010 Recent find. A pre war photo of a Gordons Sports team - but I cannot decide from the number/dress/physique what sport might be involved here. Officer's uniform is interesting in that it shows the shield shaped badge, as worn on sporran, as a collar brass. I know this was being worn in 1909 but I think was replaced very soon after that. Any ideas on the sport? Athletics? Tug of war? I am led to believe the photo was taken at Colchester. TIA Chris
FROGSMILE Posted 4 December , 2010 Share Posted 4 December , 2010 Could be gymnastics team (vaulting the box, somersaults etc) as that was often the kind of dress worn. Shorts, singlets canvas shoes and socks rolled down. I am not disputing Colchester, but that exact style of barracks existed at Tidworth too. I lived in one for 4-years and recognise the backdrop to the photo.
