Well thats about it. I did not take any shots of the desolate mud at the site of Bayonet Trench, it was too wet , grey and depressing but trust me it was colourless and bleak.

However this last shot is my favourite. It sums up "At the going down of the sun we will remember them".

Taken from North Road facing a general SW direction. On the far left one can see the NZ memorial with trees being almost gone, centre left is the north side of High Wood. The Poplar treess are on the track known as Turk Avenue and to the left of those trees is the junction of Abbey Road running west from Flers. Abbey Road in parts is deeply sunken and was the location of many German dug outs. This general view is the terrain the NZ Division advanced over in September. If one were to continue walking along Turk Avenue away from Flers one would soon meet the road running from Eaucourt L'Abbaye to Guedecourt.

Great photos as always.

They put me in the mood for another trip!

If only the continent was easily accessible from here!

Cheers,

No major finds but these were nice reminders of my walks...

Bayonet from Courcelette, browner button from near North Road and the other from in front of Guillemont Road Cemetery.

Your PM mailbox must be full - thanks for posting the pic of Feversham's grave, TT! I've put a link from the Yeoman Rifles thread.

I do envy you being able to pop over and walk the fields like that. Would be very interested in any you took around Regina Trench.

Great photos!

Cheers

Great finds,i wonder how long artifacts like bayonets and rifles will keep there shape after so long in the soil, they seem to shed a coat every year.
