trenchtrotter Posted 19 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 19 November , 2010 Well thats about it. I did not take any shots of the desolate mud at the site of Bayonet Trench, it was too wet , grey and depressing but trust me it was colourless and bleak. However this last shot is my favourite. It sums up "At the going down of the sun we will remember them". Taken from North Road facing a general SW direction. On the far left one can see the NZ memorial with trees being almost gone, centre left is the north side of High Wood. The Poplar treess are on the track known as Turk Avenue and to the left of those trees is the junction of Abbey Road running west from Flers. Abbey Road in parts is deeply sunken and was the location of many German dug outs. This general view is the terrain the NZ Division advanced over in September. If one were to continue walking along Turk Avenue away from Flers one would soon meet the road running from Eaucourt L'Abbaye to Guedecourt. .
