David B Posted 11 November , 2010 Share Posted 11 November , 2010 I wish to insure my g/fathers medals against theft etc. Is there any accepted standard in valuing these medals. The group is 14-15 star BWM VM MSM and LSGC (1803). These medals are made more interesting in the fact that they display 3 kings Edward VII, George V and VI. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 11 November , 2010 Share Posted 11 November , 2010 A typical standard "Valuation" can be found in the Medal Year Book for each individual Medal, however this would not take into account any specialist value, with regard to Unit,Citation, scarcity, combined value, etc;I would estimate an insurance value for a typical group such as this to be around the £400/£500 mark, with out any details. River97 Posted 12 November , 2010 Share Posted 12 November , 2010 David, I would say the valuation Harry has given would not be too far off, but as he says, it's hard to put a true figure on them without any further details. Who the soldier was, who they served with, why was there an award of the MSM - was it for gallantry, what engagements they took part in, what unit they were with, what rank they were, it all counts. Cheers Andy.
David B Posted 12 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 12 November , 2010 Thanks pals for those replies. I have had possession of the medals for nearly 60 years, they are mounted and framed but never thought to insure them. Makes one realize, reading various posts on the forum how valuable medals have become in recent years and feel it is time to do something about them. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 12 November , 2010 Share Posted 12 November , 2010 Basically you can probably insure them for any reasonable value you like ,the corresponding premium will reflect the cover to take account of the Family's intrinsic & unique value
