bobshaw Posted 11 November , 2010 Posted 11 November , 2010 Can any one tell me where 6 Avenue Trench was, in the area of Contalmaison. Route of Evacuation. By stretcher Bearers to R.A.Ps. By R.A.M.C. S.B. from R.A.P at M.27.a.9.9. overland via Sunken Road to A.D.S. at MARTINPUICH (M.32.d.3.9) thence by trench tramway to 6 AVENUE TRENCH thence by Horse Ambulance to A.D.S. at CONTALMAISON. So far I cannot pick it up on the maps I know a couple of years ago some one posted a trench map showing sixth Trench, but this one was some where around Thiepval, not the area I am looking for. Kind regards Bob

bobshaw Posted 12 November , 2010 Author Posted 12 November , 2010 Hi Bob, 2 maps, one clearly showing 6th avenue trench, the second its relationship to villages in the area... maps from the "linesman" package. regards Tom Hi Tom, Please accept my most sincere thanks for your prompt reply and the maps, they are extremely important to me as I am still trying to trace the route and visualise the area and distance my grandfather might have been taken. All the maps I have looked at up to now did not show 6th Avenue Trench, so I am very chuffed for your help. He was wounded on the 1st October 1916 during the attack at Le Sars, we know he ws in hospital at Rouen on the 2nd and died on the 3rd. I am trying to get to grips with the time frame, as Rouen was about 90 miles from the battlefield, if everything I have found and read then he was fortunate in one sense to have been got to a hospital in such a short time. Kind regards Bob
