verdun Posted 3 October , 2010 Share Posted 3 October , 2010 Would anyone have access to the War Diary of the 1st/9th London Regt (Queen Victoria's Rifles) for the period June 30th -July 2nd 1916 (i.e Gommecourt)? If so, and you could e-mail digital copies to: enfield@mail2world.com, I would most grateful. Many thanks if you can help. Peter PS Anything for the capture of Hill 60 in 1915 (same unit) would also be gratefully received.
bmac Posted 4 October , 2010 Share Posted 4 October , 2010 I should have it somewhere but right now don't have the time to chase it down (my father has just died so rather pre-occupied I'm afraid). If you still need it give me a kick next week once the funeral, etc., is out of the way. It is filed away somewhere. Not sure where right now. verdun Posted 4 October , 2010 Author Share Posted 4 October , 2010 Very sorry to hear your sad news, but many thanks for getting in touch. If no one else comes up trumps with the WD in the meantime, I will take up your kind offer to contact you again later with a PM. Thanks again, Peter
PeteHawtin Posted 16 December , 2010 Share Posted 16 December , 2010 Peter, There is a book on the Queen Vics, written shortly after the war, which is incredibly detailled and includes the actions on Hill60 in Apr 15 when Lt Woolley won the VC. I took a family friend out to Ypres last year and we were able to follow in his fathers footsteps (an old Vic), including walking the ground around Kansas Cross where they fought during 3rd Ypres. I only have extracts at home, but my memory fails me as to the title at the moment. I'll check back in a couple of days and let you know.
