Terry Denham Posted 7 September , 2010 Share Posted 7 September , 2010 Up until now, the In From the Cold Project has only been able to fund the purchase of death certificates required for non-com cases of men/women who were still in service at the time of their deaths. We all know that there are many hundreds/thousands of other men who died after discharge of service related injuries or illness who could qualify for CWGC commemoration. There are no lists of these men so they tend to be found by individuals undertaking family, war memorial or other military research. In many cases the finder is happy to buy the required certificate and proceed with getting the case accepted (or not) by MoD. Equally there are instances where the cost of this document cannot be met by the finder and so the case goes nowhere. To try and help more of these cases proceed and get more men their deserved commemoration, IFCP has come up with a plan where we can fund certificates for these cases. To comply with our financial restrictions, there are a number of qualifications to be met and we will not be able to help in all cases but we are going to try. Essentially, the system will be a reimbursement scheme whereby likely cases can be put forward by IFCP and the original finder refunded the cost of any death certificate they have had to purchase whilst gathering evidence. The scheme is not retrospective and there are other restrictions but we may be able to help in some instances. If anyone is interested, they can contact us through the IFCP website ‘Contact’ facility or simply email myself or John Hartley for the full details. Even if it helps bring in only one more casualty, it will be worth it.
John_Hartley Posted 24 December , 2010 Share Posted 24 December , 2010 Some personal research prompts me to "ping" the thread. John Knight, died of wounds, 12 March 1917 Not forgotten.
